Learning together, we can achieve great things!

Courtney was opened as Woodstock Secondary Modern for Boys in 1939. When the school moved to the New Grange buildings in Warmley in 1971, the building was converted for primary use.

The school opened under the headship of Mr Field with 3 classes and expanded year on year. Mrs Chapman, who retired from Courtney in 2002 but still does supply work here, was one of the first teachers.

In 1976 the school had expanded to 270 pupils and the local newspaper the New Observer came to write a piece about the school and take photos. These photos are taken from that article. Do you recognise any faces? At least two present members of staff were pupils at the time!

In 1996 the author Dick King Smith came to visit the school. He told the children stories and signed autographs. We were very lucky as Babe was very big news at the cinema at the time.

In the same year the school celebrated its silver jubilee as a primary school. There were lots of Jubilee celebrations and Mr Field came back to visit the school. As a long term note of this landmark in Courtney's history, the Jubilee room was built and today it houses the ICT suite. This is a tremendous resource to the school.

In 1996 the film crew of the Bristol based drama 'Casualty' came to film at Courtney.  We were especially picked for our stage facilities. Many of our KS1 children at the time were stars of an episode that went out at Christmas that year although it was weird for the children and staff filming the Nativity in September!
